Columbia River Marine Assistance

When you need a friend…on the water.

What We Do…

The tag line, “When you need a friend…on the water.”

is not just something a corporate marketing rocket scientist came up with for us.

This is truly why we put this thing together.  When things look dark, grim, forbidding, give us a call.

Sure, you can phone your Dad, your big brother, your best buddy from college,

or some one else you know has a boat, when you get in a difficult situation,

but if you want a well trained crew, with a capable boat,

complete supplies of safety gear, who do this every day, then you want

Columbia River Marine Assistance

 on the phone.

We can:

Bring you extra gasoline… if you run out.

Hook you up with a jump start… when you played your stereo too long.

Pull you off a sand bar… when you let your brother-in-law drive.

Cut that anchor line off of your prop… whether it’s yours or someone else’s.

Tow you back to dock… when all else fails.

Bring your sunken boat back to the surface… for the day when everything really went South.

Remember, if lives are in danger, the first thing to do is don your life jackets, then,

using your VHF Radio, tuned to Channel 16, make a MAYDAY call.

This will bring every capable mariner from your local area,

as well as the Coast Guard, other marine assistance companies and of course, us.

Do remember though, losing your engine, breaking a rudder,

or running out of fuel is NOT good cause for a MAYDAY call, unless,

lives are at risk.  Get your PFD’s on, drop an anchor, and call us for a tow.

No need to get the Coast Guard wound up if you just need a lift back to dock.

Memberships

We get asked, “What if I have a membership with SeaTow or Boat US?”

We answer…if you have a SeaTow membership, here is how that would work.

SeaTow has an out of area coverage program that will pay you back for towing or service expenses.

From their membership agreement:

Universal Towing Coverage: In areas where Sea Tow is not yet in operation, Sea Tow will assist in arranging, and will reimburse for, assistance towing up to $150 per hour, not to exceed $5000 PER INCIDENT, to the dock or facility that will best facilitate the boat’s repair or transportation, with no annual aggregate limit. You must use a USCG licensed professional tower, pay the bill and submit a copy of the invoice to Sea Tow Services International for reimbursement. Tows and hourly rates in excess of $150/hr will not be paid without prior authorization.

That covers us, however, our rate is $200/hour, so you may have to pay the $50/hour difference,

unless you call SeaTow to get an approval prior to sending in your invoice.

For dock to dock towing our rate is only $125, so if you can schedule your tow for a weekday, all the better.

(Obviously, if you are drifting down the river with a bad engine, that cannot be scheduled)

You will have to pay us at the completion of the job, but submit the invoice to SeaTow and they will refund you.

Be sure to check with www.seatow.com for full information on your membership as this policy is subject to change.

A SeaTow Membership is $149/year for recreational boaters.

SeaTow no longer has a franchise in the Portland Area, or on the Oregon coast, they ended service in December of 2008.

For information on Boat US or Vessel Assist, see their membership agreement here.

Boat US covers up to $125/hour and a maximum of $3,000 per incident,

depending on your service level with them, be sure to check your individual policy as Boat US

 has several different membership levels.

Boat US has one operator in the Portland Area, Ted Carr.  Ted is based on Sauvie Island.

Tugger!

Hang on…Tugger is coming!
