Meet The Crew!

Ashley, Ron and Tugger One

Ashley

Ash is a graduate of the Power Squadrons seamanship course as well as a veteran deckhand towing on the Columbia River Bar during the 08 summer season.  She is an accomplished SCUBA diver and open water instructor with 400 dives under her weight belt.  She began diving on a closed circuit rebreather system in May of 08 and in Jan of 09 completed her full cave diving certification.  She is also a visual arts major and the designer of CRMA’s artwork.   Paddling a kayak, behind the viewfinder of her camera, or flying down the ski slopes are all places that Ashley is in her comfort zone.  Ashley can also clean, detail and wax your boat, call her at 503 867 3222 for a free quote or appointment.

Captain Ron

Ron has made the Portland area his home since 1989, but grew up in Michigan, fishing and boating on the Great Lakes with his family.  He fell out of his first boat, an 8 foot dingy with electric trolling motor, at age 12, while trying to reel in a trophy largemouth bass.  (well, that’s the story as he tells it!)

Still falling in and out of various things, Ron fell in love with SCUBA diving in 1998, and since then has logged over 1,000 dives, including 500+ hours on a Closed Circuit Rebreather with documented dives to depths of 400 FSW using exotic mixes of gasses that he blended himself.  (Somehow the fear gene missed this DNA).

See Ron’s diving website at www.tmishop.com

There is no better day for Ron than to be out on the water, whether its inland on a river, or 80 miles off shore, diving under a 100 foot long fishing vessel, knife in hand, cutting 250 feet of crab pot line off the shaft, in 8 foot seas.  (yes it really happened, the fear gene obviously is missing, along with some brain cells).

Captain Ron is credentialed by the United States Coast Guard as a Vessel Master, with commercial assistance towing endorsed.   He has completed maritime courses in RADAR, Safety, Survival, First Aid and Shipboard firefighting.  He is also a first aid, CPR and AED instructor.

Ron has also made an additional career of installing 12volt electronics.  From car stereos, to alarms, remote starting systems, emergency vehicle electronics for local law enforcement agencies, marine electronics, and data tracking systems for trucking companies, he has managed to install just about everything.  Feel free to ask for help with your boat or car electronics.

Tugger!

Tugger!

Tugger One and Tugger Too are CRMA’s two rescue and assistance boats.  They were manufactured by Triumph boat company in 2003.  Both boats have 200 HP 4 stroke outboards, Tugger One has a Suzuki Engine, and Tugger Two is equipped with a Yamaha.  They are both painted bright orange from the top of the gunnels to the water line, while the interior remains its native yellow.  Needless to say, it pretty hard to miss Tugger on the water.  Look for the block letters down the side that read MARINE ASSISTANCE and you will have the right boat.

Tugger is most certainly a water baby, he loves to play on the river but is at his best when there is work to do.  Just hand him a line attached to a boat on the sand bar and he is like your favorite golden retriever, eager to play tug o’ war.  Luckily the CRMA crew know just how to tickle Tugger to have him pull just the right amount!

Both Tuggers are well equipped with VHF radios, GPS receivers, a sturdy tow post mounted front and rear, deck lights for those late night jobs, lots of heavy duty towing line, multiple fenders to keep that nice orange paint off of your boat as well as all the USCG required safety gear.
